Bambarakelly Estate is situated in Lindula, in the Nuwara Eliya district. It is 5Km from the Lindula town and 12Km from the Talawakelle Railway Station. Bambarakelly is perched at an elevation between 4200 and 5400 feet, and covers an area of nearly 590 hectares (1460 acres). Tea is the main crop on the Estate, made up primarily of mature tea plants.
The history of the Estate goes back to when it was owned by Lunuva (Ceylon) Tea & Rubber Estates Ltd and managed by Harrisons & Crossfields Ltd. Following the Government Nationalisation of estates in 1975, Bambarakelly was managed by the Janatha Estate Development Board. In 1992 the Estate was taken over by Horana Plantations PLC.
