Fairlawn Estate
 

The Fairlawn Tea Garden is located in Upcot in the Nuwara Eliya district 25Km from the town of Hatton. The Estate consists of 5 divisions; Fairlawn, Bargeany, Sooriyakande, Mincinglane and Blairavon, with the principal crop being tea. The Estate lies at an elevation ranging between 4500 feet and 4870 feet above sea level, with a temperate climate of 20 and 25C.

The Estate covers an area of 447.50 hectares (1100 Acres). Vegetative Propagation and VP Tea is grown on 178.55 hectares and while 154.50 hectares is dedicated for seedlings. The remaining land is distributed between timber plantation, forest, buildings Jungle, and Patna Land.

Fairlawn has its own tea factory which can produce 700,00 Kgs per annum. The factory also has the unique ability of generating its own power via its micro hydro plant (Pelton) which generates 75 KVA of capacity.

The history of the Estate can be traced back to the year 1915, when planting was begun by British planters who selected the location due to its ideal climate and hilly terrain. From its beginning till 1972 the Estate was owned by the Fairlawn Tea Company and managed Harrisons & Crossfields Ltd. With the Nationalisation of estates, Fairlawn Estate came under the management of the Sir Lanka State Plantations Corporation. In 1992 during the privatisation of estates, Fairlawn was amalgamated together with Mincinglane Estate and handed over to Horana Plantations PLC.
